\Nashik Airport Expansion and Multi-Modal Transport Hub Planned for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026-28

Nashik: In preparation for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026-28, Nashik is set to witness major infrastructure upgrades, including the expansion of Nashik Airport and the development of a multi-modal transport hub.

During a recent video conference on Kumbh Mela preparations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advisor, Tarun Kapoor, directed the Ministry of Civil Aviation to initiate expansion plans for Nashik Airport to handle the expected surge in air traffic during the religious event.

Kapoor also instructed MahaRail and other concerned agencies to plan an integrated transport hub that will seamlessly connect railways, the upcoming Neo Metro, and the city’s bus services. As part of the broader urban mobility plan, Kapoor urged Maha Metro to study successful public transport models from cities like Mexico City and Abu Dhabi to guide the development of Nashik’s Neo Metro project.

In addition to these directives, Kapoor reviewed the ongoing progress of multiple infrastructure projects linked to the Kumbh Mela.

The high-level meeting saw participation from key government officials, including divisional commissioner Praveen Gedam, Nashik Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri, and district collector Jalaj Sharma, alongside senior secretaries from various departments.
