Nashik Road Railway Station Receives ₹166 Crore Sanction for Kumbh Mela 2026-28 Preparations

In preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026-28, Nashik Road Railway Station has secured developmental project sanctions worth ₹166 crore from Central Railway. These upgrades are part of a larger ₹500 crore proposal submitted to the General Manager's office.

A senior official confirmed that major infrastructural enhancements are on the agenda, with key components including:

• Two 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridges (FOBs): Designed to streamline passenger movement and reduce crowd congestion.

• Mela Tower Control Centre: A concrete-floored holding area capable of accommodating up to 5,000 pilgrims, ensuring orderly boarding and waiting during peak rush hours.

• Drinking Water Infrastructure: Installation of an extensive pipeline network, along with overhead and underground tanks with a combined storage capacity of over 4 lakh litres.

• Sanitation Facilities: Construction of 16 new toilet blocks and upgrades to existing ones.

Further developments—such as a new station building on the eastern side, FOB extensions, enhanced parking facilities, and improvements at nearby stations like Devlali, Kasbe Sukene, Odha, and Kherwaid—have been proposed to the Railway Board for approval.

Additionally, the Bhusawal Division has floated a proposal for a new railway terminus near Nashik Road station, contingent upon land allocation from the state government.

These initiatives aim to accommodate the significant influx of devotees expected during the Kumbh Mela, ensuring safety, efficiency, and improved passenger experience.
